Orton Gillingham
St. Clare provides our K-2nd grade students with instruction in the Orton-Gillingham (OG) IMSE Comprehensive program as a hands-on, structured way to teach reading. This program is not only effective for students who learn to read easily but is effective for students who struggle with it. OG focuses on building key skills like phonemic awareness, phonics, and spelling through clear, step-by-step lessons. Mastering reading takes time so skills are continuously reviewed to help students reach mastery. The IMSE Morphology program takes things further for our 3rd-5th grade students by helping them break down words and understand their parts, like prefixes and suffixes. Together, these programs give our students the tools to become stronger, more confident readers.
